Easy Clutch Kit

I installed a Harley easy clutch kit on my 05 Superglide. Will the installation of a performance clutch negate the benefits of having an easy clutch already installed?

A replacement high performance clutch will not affect the ‘easy clutch’ update offered by Harley Davidson. That update involves the cable, release ball/ramp and spring. Replacing only the clutch pack will not affect the ease of operation. This applies to both a standard and extra-plate kit. If you install a stronger spring(s), then you will notice a heavier lever effort.

I had a 95 Electra Glide and now a 07 Street Glide, Both are, or were equipped with an Easy Pull clutch kit. Upon the second install I made a dumb mistake and didn’t put in the clutch cable spacer. No amount of adjusting the cable would correct this. Seeing my error I loosened the cable and within moments I had the spacer in. It cost time as I had to go back and readjust the clutch, cable, etc. one thing that helped me was putting heavy grease on the 3 ball bearings and the associated ramp. This made installing the Easy Pull very easy as the grease held the pieces and parts together. To do the job you will need 90 degree snap ring pliers to remove and reinstall the large snap ring which holds the assembly together. Safety Note: Be careful when removing and installing the snap ring. This is where you MUST use those 90 degree pliers. Otherwise, when that snap ring is not seated in its respective grove it will launch and hurt you or launch to a far away place making it difficult to find it. In the end I’ve installed 5 of these kits. I love mine because it takes about 50% less effort to clutch. And as it’s easier, shifting is much faster. I love the system. Oh I forgot. I had to remove the right side header to get to the bottom bolts. Don’t forget to get fluid for the tranny and a new gasket for the cover. Regards, Sensei Mark

I installed new Drag Speciality Clutch Plates and Barentt Steel Driven Plates on my 1980 Ironhead Sportster. Cannot seem to get the clutch to not to drag. In gear with the clutch pulled in at a stop I have to apply my front brake slightly to no creep forward. My old 1979 Sporster, that I had for over twenty years did the same. I never had to replace the clutch in it, never worn, out the mounting for the rear xmsn. mount did tho. The reason I permanently retired her. Do you have any videos on Ironhead Sportster?
