2006 Harley Trike

Q:I have a 2006 Harley Trike the engine has a cam upgrade and increased to 96 cu in. I buy 92 octane premium gas. Only a few gallons at a time ( 100 to 150 mile rides) My bike has been pinging.
1. How much gas is in the lines from the storage tank pump to the nozzle?
Am I getting two gallons of the last dispensed grade and a quart of premium? I know this is dependent on hose diameter and length.
2. Are octane boosters worth buying and using?
3. What about Sea Foam tm it says to put in oil and gas?
OIL question.
My bike has always had Harley 10-40 Synthetic. I have a hard time finding natural. Easier with the engine turned off. I have been told to use a heaver oil in the transmission like 90 weight? As far as Harleys and Oil it seams everyone has an opinion. I guess I am asking for yours. You do a lot more bikes.
Thank You

A: If you search around your area, you should be able to find a gas station that has individual lines/nozzles for 92, or 93 octane fuel. That is your best bet, so that you can end up with a full tank of 92/93, and not a mix. There should really be no need for octane booster but you can always give it a try.

The weight of your transmission fluid has little to do with shifting into neutral. More often there is a problem with clutch adjustment, shifter pawl adjustment, or binding shift linkage.
As for fluids we have been very happy with Spectro.

I have a 04 Electra Glide Classic and was told it had a 95 inch in her..I put about 15K on it since 2012..On my bike for me to find neutral I have to be under power and just before I back off shift it into neutral otherwise I have to mess around with the shift lever for a while to get neutral..Maybe needs a clutch adjustment ?..As for the fuel I live about an hr north of Sacramento,Ca...My engine like most likes to breathe cold air..in the winter I can run 87 octane and in the summer I can run 92 octane or I can mix half and half with no problems..

Are there still fuel pumps with one filler hose and buttons to choose different octanes? Is it 1976 again?

I use Amsoil 20/50 and Redline in primary. I also use 75/90 in the gears. Surely 10/40 is too thin for an air cooled engine. As for pinging , I use 97 octane here and always rely on Archoil 6200 to reduce the temperature for better burn . There is bound to be oil in the crankcase : I might be wrong but surely lowering the temperature of combustion will give a more complete burn. I also use Archoil 9100 in the primary to lower the friction.

I have a 2012 Tri-Glide. I have pinging. I live in Huachuca City AZ and am unable to get higher than 91 Octane. I've used booster, but don't see much difference. There seems no scientific way to measure the proper amount of booster.

In 1998 my dealer switched my trans fluid to Bel-Ray semi synthetic 80-140 and it smoothed the trans right out. I've been using ever since in my 02 Road King. My lubes have been Amsoil in the engine, Harley 20/50 in the clutch and Bel-Ray in the trans. 80,000 and never a problem.

Guys it might be worth pointing out that the difference between viscosity recommendation for the Harley Trannys is that 20w-50 motor oil which can be used in the tranny has it viscosity measured at a different temperature then a 90 weight gear oil. Many folks don't realize this and so it get confusing. In fact a 20w-50 motor oil is close cross over to a 75w-90 or 75w-110 gear oil when the viscosity is measured at the same temperature. My preference is AMSOIL 20w-50 for the motor and AMSOIL 75w-110 for the Trans.
