My daughter has a 2005 883 Sportster. The carburetor spits and sputters until it gets really worked up, which takes about 10 minutes. I cleaned it up, giving it new gaskets and a new, bigger jet. No change. Any advice?

The condition you describe is often caused by either an intake leak, bike not charging (grounded stator), or an ignition system issue. We would suggest performing a full charging system test next.

This is a common problem with the CV carbs...and is actually a lean condition. There is a fix you can find by using google...basically it is adding a spacer to make the mixture more rich.

I own a 2001 sportster 1200 it was sitting for two years when i bought it . custom frame and paint work . bike ran rich i removed carb to clean and inspect it has aftermarket pipes and air cleaner had a 68 pilot jet and a 146 main jet aftermarket needle i installed a 48 pilot and stock needle ran very bad . i returned installed the parts that were in the carb .found a replacement air filter from wix to replace the kayakin kn now the bike runs good when warmed up i think this engine is also modified larger valves and ported heads how can i tell without dissasemble no spit fast fast thanks Randy
I have an 05 road king I just purchased it spits and sputters a little bit it's only has 19000 miles on it when it gets warm it idles up but it still spits a little can't figure it out
