Engine Cut

Question for Fix My Hog I would like to thank you for your website, you have a lot of great information. I have an engine miss at a constant load between 2100-2300 rpm, whether I am holding the throttle or using cruise control. I am planning on taking it to the HD dealer, but your website is so useful I wanted to check with you! My other question is, Is there a sensor that cuts a cylinder out at idle if the engine starts getting too hot?

Fix My Hog Answers Need to consider what you have for an air cleaner assembly and weather or not you are using a tuner. If you are using a Power Commander, Vance & Hines FuelPak, or Cobra FI2000, we would suggest looking into making an adjustment. Also, consider checking for trouble codes.

I have a 2004 road king custom, I have vance and hines big radius pipes, arleness big sucker intake and a vance and hines fuel pak, i have a cut out at various speeds but noticed lower rpms, if I run higher rpms it's not as bad but still is there, I've put new coil, new plug wires, new plugs, and have replaced fuel filter fuel line inside tank and line outside goin to fuel rail, I'm stumped and ready to just start rebuilding the whole motor, before I do that is there any advice, pkease

I have the same issue on my 2003 FXDL. Several years ago, I had the local HD dealer put in a "Dyno" kit. After that, the Dyna ran rich, backfired thru the carb during hot starts, and started missing around 2500 RPM. Strange thing, I discovered if I pulled out the choke a little bit, miss went away. So, I pulled the carb and started going thru the dealer "Dyno" mod, here's what I found: (1) Approximately 1 inch cut off the vacuum piston spring. (2) 0.010 oversize needle jet installed (Main jet and slow jet unchanged from stock). (3) Vacuum piston breather hole enlarged to 0.176 (4) After market Jet Needle installed (Unknown manufacturer, unknown flow characteristics). Needless to say, I currently rebuilding back to factory spec's with all new factory parts. Also, after talking to several HD owner friends, I'm replacing the vacuum line from the carb to the fuel valve - just to make sure. Lastly, and just as an additional fix, I'm replacing the ignition coil and spark plug wires! I let you know how it turns out after I get the FXDL up and running again.

My son's 2012 dyna was cutting out around 2k rpms. It was from a weak battery.

Also replaced throttle position sensor. I have a 2006 Road King and chased a nasty engine miss at various rpms and loads. Idle perfect. I’m running a Power Commander V and have tried different maps to optimize my air/fuel. Replaced injectors as I had the 3-hole versions. Replaced fuel pump/reg, replaced plugs and wires, replaced intake seals, and cleaned air cleaner (big sucker, s&s 2-1, 508 cams, 88cu in.). Checked/ cleaned lo-voltage coil connector. Missing seems to be throttle position/ vibration sensitive. Possible have a cracked coil? I noticed that the high voltage nipped me when I got close to the plug wires when running. Cracked plug insulator? I’m running out of parts to change...any ideas? Things improved after changing the injectors, but problem has returned. Plug color seems about right, but I’m running a map that appears to have richen the mixture (intentional) for what appeared to be a lean miss?
