Just wanted to tell you you have a very satisfied customer in NC. I got the Softail / Dyna edition maintenance DVD for my 2007 Dyna FXDC. After going through it a couple times (and using the service manual) I did my 5K service myself. Even with buing a few tools, I saved a TON of money. I’m sure you’ve heard that before, so here’s the kicker:
Using that DVD and the service manual, I swapped out my bars. Nothing fancy, just stock take-offs from a Street Bob and new rubber cables. But, replacing the cables and brake line is a really easy stretch from the adjustments shown in your DVD. Talk about saving money, dealer wanted 5hrs labor + parts = $500!!! I rounded up what I needed for parts for under $200 and did the work myself, got some new tools, and learned a bunch more about my bike. Just got back from a test ride. No leaks, everything works, and I got the pride of doing it myself.

My husband and I have both recently purchased our first bikes. My bike is a silver 1999 Fatboy, his a black 2003 Night Train. Being new to biking, we were concerned dealers might try gouging us, so we wanted to learn to do most of the maintenance ourselves. I find your DVDs invaluable, the Softail / Dyna Edition when I had my Fat Boy, and now the Touring Edition for my 2005 Screamin’ Eagle Electra Glide.  Even procedures as simple as fairing removal, watching the DVD just gave me the confidence to upgrade my fairing speakers.  May sound minor, but I was concerned about stripping the brass inserts until I watched your piece on that. This bike has been across the USA and back, plus on a cruise to the Caribbean, (onto a nude beach in St. Marten, as pictured here).

Here are couple of pics of my ’05 XL 1200 custom. After paying the dealer a lot of money on the 1k & 5k service I found your ad in a American Iron Magazine. After giving it some thought & finding out what my dealer wanted for the 10k service I decided to purchase your Sportster DVD. It cost me some bucks to buy tools & a motorcycle/ atv jack (things I didn’t have). I don’t think that I saved any money at first (because of purchasing tools etc.). I may have been in the hole on the 1st 10k service but a couple of months later I jacked up my bike & removed the wheels & tires. I purchased new rubber online at a really good price & had a local shop mount & balance them. It was a lot cheaper than what my dealer wanted to charge. I then put them back on my bike with little to no problem. I saved a bunch of money doing this myself. With my 15k service in sight I’ll save a lot more due to purchasing your DVD. Your DVD was worth every dollar spent & then some! Thanks for helping me keep riding & saving a lot of money at the same time!!…

I ride an ’05 Bagger down here in Texas and have a ball riding the Hill Country on the weekends. Might sound like a testimonial to Dennis’s “Fix My Hog ” series of DVDs but I use to be a slave to the Dealer, bike shops and mechanics until Dennis’s series came along. Don’t get me wrong, the dealer has some good guys there and is important when you need work done beyond your skill level. The ” Fix My Hog ” series gave me the knowledge and confidence to do the routine maintenance that I used to have to pay to have done. Makes me feel good too! Thanks Dennis!
