G’day Dennis, absolutely love the stuff you blokes do and send me. I ride an 2008 FLHTCU and am as happy as a pig in shit with what it does for me. I live in Australia and been riding for 32 years. I’ve got more info out of you blokes in the last couple of months than I have in all the books I’ve bought over the years. It’s ANZAC day here today, done the dawn service and am now on the piss with my mates and the diggers. (Aussie slang for past and present soldiers), enjoy the ride.

Dennis, I started riding a Harley Davidson May 12th 2012. However I have been riding since 1987. I haven’t really done any major upgrades to my Harley. Changed heat shields, had some things powder coated taking them off and putting them back again. I do some oil changes. All your videos are absolutely SUPERB. You make AWESOME videos. Thank you very much for doing them.

Hi Dennis and crew, Thanks for creating the clutch related videos! Having watched I now think I know what I did wrong when rebuilding a clutch for the first time. I have had trouble getting it adjusted correctly and it was due to missing a couple of important steps that the service manual didn’t mention, but your video did. Keep them coming! Cheers, Greg

Your site has helped me in making some of the more minor upgrades to my Harley ( 2004 XLH 883 C-Named “Lucy” ). Things such as seat and sissy bar, control grips and foot pedals. You have also improved my knowledge of proper maintenance schedule and given me a site to help with more improvements I have planned this spring. I find your step by step videos extremely helpful and easy to follow.
I am grateful for your site and the things you do for us “back yard” enthusiasts’! I know that the cost of membership is totally worth every cent I paid, even more so for the confidence you have given me to do these things on my own!

My wife, Kim and I got back into riding a few years ago. We bought a Sportster, and a Fatboy and took a Beginners Riders Course offered by the State of Utah. A year later we bought a 2008 Road King and we started taking long road trips. In 2009 we bought a new Electra Glide Classic and in 2011 we bought our first Ultra Classic. Each time we bought a bike Kim would move up to the bike I was riding. I enjoy working on the bikes and used the Fix My Hog videos along with the Harley Service and Parts Manuals to learn how to do basic maintenance like oil changes, tune ups and wheel removal. I installed ThunderMax tuners to each bike and keep the Maps and tunes up to date. Last February, (2013) I bought a 2012 Ultra Limited with 3000 miles that had been wrecked and totaled out. The front forks were bent and all the body parts were damaged except the rear fender and left saddlebag. I had to replace both forks, Inner and Outer Fairings, Side covers, Fuel Tank, Left saddlebag, Saddlebag guards, Engine Guard, Lights, Mirrors, Foot Boards and Tour Pack. Fix My Hog videos provided a vast amount of information on fork rebuilding, faring removal and basic repair techniques. The project was very enjoyable and took several weeks to finish. When I took that bike for a ride I had a really good feeling of accomplishment. I felt especially proud when my wife rode it for the first time and at the end of that ride she said she’d like to keep it as her bike. The next August we rode from our home in Utah to British Columbia and back, both bikes performed flawlessly.

Its a Fatboy for a Fatman…lol, I bought myself a 1992 Fatboy a couple of years ago and have been slowly making it my own! Now these Newer Evos, heck any of these newer bikes leave me scratchin my head. So I am bloody glad to have you guys around! All I ever worked on was pre-war 80 inchers or 45s…so I was really out of my element. But as I ride year round I had to find someone to try and get info from. Most of my bros are dead or someplace unacceptable!!! OK , so far she has been stroked, and a cam put in her. Plus a decent header system, now I am looking at the intake, thinking maybe a hyper charger….Anyway keep up the good work!

There’s nothing like a day in the garage with your bike. I have a Touring bike, Softail, and my wife’s Nightster. If I had to take all three bikes to a dealer, I would have to sell one to afford their rates. Since my first video I started changing my own oil, then brakes, pulling wheels off to replace a tire and reinstalling it. Just these routine service jobs each year add up to big bucs. As my confidence grew the next thing I know I am changing exhaust systems, installing new handlebars, wiring, new switch housings, chrome switches, levers, the whole deal. When I put the new bars on, marked all the wires, fished the wires through the bars, soldered the wires together one by one, added all the other chrome accessories and now the moment of truth was finally facing me square in the eye. It was me and the starter switch. I reached over and gave it a push, and that mother fired right up. What a feeling, it looked like a factory job. Chrome, chrome, chrome…shifter lever, passenger foot boards, front forks, gauge and radio trim, mirror chrome, you name it all done by me what more can I say than ‘I FIXED MY HOG”. Now it was time to chrome the wheels rotors, spacers, etc., and put some real tires on the bike. It’s not quite where I want it but I am getting there. It’s all about the videos…you can’t get enough…just keep them coming so I can make my bike my own, and maintain it at the same time!

I am a customer and just got done watching your three part series on the Softail belt replacement. Bravo!!!!!!!!!, awesome series and answered every question I had and then some in the series and very straight forward and clear as usual. I think it would be a awesome idea to bundle these up into DVD’s for purchase, a hard copy would be awesome and I would gladly pay. Keep in mind I never even changed my own oil and this past winter bought a lift and torn my softail down to the motor and Trans and replaced everything around it that I had been paying huge money to have done at various shops, but wasn’t. I took the service manual, a Clymer’s manual for more info, your cd series and bought a ton of tools from Jims and others as needed to be able to do everything properly jumped in with both feet. This included replacing the starter, cables, pipes, fluids, brakes, calipers and tons of chrome refresh. The one glaring thing left to do is I need compression releases since I have a 106 kit in my 2000 Heritage and it’s hard to start even with a brand new battery, 4 ga. Cables and an all balls 1.4 kw starter. I suspected this beforehand but was always told I didn’t need it, which would have been nice to have done since I had everything torn down. So what I have done in the meantime is to rock the bike in gear while off and then once past the compression stroke it turns right over and figured this would be better than tearing up my starter etc and since this seems to work well, I’m not sure if it’s worth it to tear it down and install compression releases. Thoughts? That would also been awesome to see on video is Bob installing compression releases start to finish on different motors. I have adjustable pushrods as well of course and have started researching what it’s going to take to do it myself. Looks pretty straight forward, just a little Leary of getting the pushrods correct upon reassembly, but I’ve gone this far so what the heck. For now , I want to ride, as I’m out in Illinois and my riding seasons aren’t that long and I haven’t really been able to ride much because of all the past issues with the bike for the last couple of years unfortunately. But your performance series on the softail is almost verbatim to how my bike is set up which is a S&S 106 kit with Andrews 50 gear drive cams, SE 44CV carb and super trap 2 into 1 pipes with scorpion clutch, so the video were right on the money and extremely helpful!!!! Thanks for your time and keep them coming. I have attached a few pictures of my bike and recently took first place, so I figure not bad for a 2000 with 75,000 miles and a guy that didn’t know much. J

Here’s a photo of my son, USAF Maj. Andrew Phillips (the bigger, young guy); and me next to my black FLHPI on a road trip we took before he deployed to Iraq in 2008. He rode up from Little Rock, AR and I rode SW from Acton MA and we met at the H-D plant in York PA. Took the tour, rode out to Gettysburg PA battlefield, and on to Wright-Patterson AFB for a tour of the USAF museum. We split up there to return home and that was one of the toughest moments of my life. He did his third tour and now his son and my grandson just began his tour in Iraq as an Airman 1st Class.
I wanted you to know all this because I believe that the Harley family is the last vestige of what made America great and you are playing an important part in keeping that heritage alive.

My 2007 U. S. Coast Guard Patriot Edition Ultra Classic. On a whim I drove from Louisville, KY to Barrington, IL, NW of Chicago, to have lunch with my sister for her 60th birthday and back home that day. When I found out she was visiting friends for a few days I could not pass up the opportunity. She lives in Oregon and I have not seen her in about 4 years. The Fix My Hog DVD is a great help keeping my bike ready for trips like these. I have HD Air Force and Navy emblems on my hard bags for my late dad (AF) and my son who is active duty Navy, Iraq and Afghanistan vet. This is a 3 generation tribute Patriot Edition Ultra Classic. USCG USAF USN.

Dennis here from NASA. Wanted to let you know I received the Touring DVD’s and have really enjoyed them. Here’s a pic of my bike, it’s a 2010 Road Glide and this picture was taken during the delivery process. I’ve owned the bike since August 6, 2009. I enjoy riding and am one of the Road Captains in the local HOG chapter.

While riding home from the base last night I came across someone on a broken down bike. The bike was an older Harley street glide and the rider told me he just had the handle bars replaced. While riding home the bike just stopped running. I recalled your article in the last newsletter (March 2010) about this happening and to check the fuse block. Well, sure enough a fuse was blown. Replacing the fuse allowed the guy to get the bike off the freeway and find the short.

Thanks for sharing all the helpful information. The owner of the broken Harley couldn’t thank me enough. So I told him about your DVD’s.
