Changing M8 Softail seats, and seat removal is one of the most common things Harley owners do to their motorcycles. Whether it’s seat removal for motorcycle maintenance, or changing the seat for comfort or customization, sooner or later you are going to take the M8 Softail seat off.

In this video Steve Knoble discusses not only removal and reinstallation of the seat, but he also discusses the relocation of the seat nut in the fender. This can be a challenging procedure, because of the difficulty of getting to the bottom of the seat nut. But Steve shows a trick that makes the whole process quick, easy and doesn’t require trying to stick your arm in between the tire and fender.

Lastly Steve covers the proper torque for the M8 Softail seat screw to keep it from vibrating out when riding down the road. Steve also demonstrates how to use a torque wrench on a Phillips screw. During reinstallation, Steve covers the key points of ensuring your seat is properly located in place and secure, so it doesn’t come out while riding down the road. The project can be done in your driveway on your own; the only special tools you will need is a torque wrench, and that should be in every motorcycle mechanic’s tool box anyway.

This procedure is performed on a 2022 M8 Softail Lowrider ST FXLRST, but it’s the same procedure for any modern Harley.
