Shovelhead Steering Head Bearing

Correct steering head bearing adjustment is crucial on all Harley Davidson models, both new and old.

Incorrect neck bearing adjustment can cause damage to bearings or wear bearings out prematurely.

More importantly, incorrect steering head bearing adjustment can cause a wobble (too loose) or can cause “tracking” (too tight). Both of these conditions greatly effect motorcycle handling and can be very dangerous for a rider.

The steering head bearing adjustment procedure can be a bit vague in the factory Shovelhead service manual.
