Harley Clutch Adjustment 5K

Q: I know the manual says to adjust your Harley clutch every 5,000 miles but if it is working fine is this necessary? My Harley shifts fine and finding neutral is not a problem.

A: Although your clutch may be functioning correctly, adjusting it according to your specified maintenance schedule is important for the longevity of the clutch/clutch assembly. There will be wear on a clutch after 5k miles.

I have an 82 Sportster 1000. The clutch grabs fine but the engine races going up hill then it's fine when the road levels out. Adjust or replace? Thanks, Kevin

I'm having a hard time getting my clutch cable adjusted on my '98 evolution softail. It feels like it snaps when I pull the lever or it just wont set at all.

2002 SE Road King 1550 CVO 6000 miles.....On my clutch adj. seem to like 1/4 turn adj on clutch hub And 1/8 on cable play. 1/2 turn on hub and 1/8 on cable and clutch handle feels like it is bottoming out clutch before clutch handle hits hand grip.Look at ball and ramp seemed fine. What am i missing? every manual states 1/2 to 1 full turn out, Thank you for you time.

I would say, as long as your clutch has 'free play' leave it alone. free play is ck'd at the clutch lever.
