Ride and Rally: Vintage Torque Fest

Vintage Torque Fest 2020

What a strange year it’s been thus far coming into spring, excited for rallies all summer only to be halted by a worldwide pandemic. With spring and early summer rallies being cancelled or rescheduled left and right during the uncertainty of the spring months, the outlook on Vintage Torque Fest, typically held in spring, looked bleak. Luckily, it was able to be rescheduled for 4th of July weekend and what better way to celebrate 4th of July than with American V Twins.

Vintage Torque Fest hits that middle ground between being larger in size than your local bike event (unless you live in Sturgis or Daytona) while really keeping that grassroots feel that we all love that sometimes gets lost in the mega rallies.

This hidden gem of a rally, held yearly in Dubuque, Iowa, is an all weekend celebration of all things vintage American. Mid century hot rods, rockabilly, country and western, dirt drags, flat track races, pin up contests, and most importantly, Harley Davidson motorcycles. The custom culture lifestyle sprawled across the entirety of the Dubuque County Fairgrounds is what makes Vintage Torque Fest a must stop on the list of Rallies to attend. With 2 stages of bands, swap meet, on-site camping, custom car show, custom bike show and the daily drive in customs, it is sure to keep your mouth salivating and your mind spinning at the possibilities for your next project.

The only thing I would recommend if you are going to attend Vintage Torque Fest is to bring your bike because the riding along the eastern border of Iowa is quite picturesque. Iowa sometimes harps a bad rap for being flat with not much to look at other than corn fields and the occasional truck stop and having spent most of my time while in Iowa driving along the I-35 super slab, I wouldn’t disagree. However, after being along the eastern border that is littered with bluffs, dense foliage, and beautiful winding roads, I can’t wait to make it back to put miles down in the morning before diving into all things vintage American at Vintage Torque Fest.
