Replacing the rear brake fluid switch on a 2012 Sportster Iron XL 883N is a simple procedure that requires limited tools. Front and rear brake systems have their own brake fluid switches, so it is important to make sure each switch is working correctly. Steve Knoble gives a step-by-step procedure of the replacement of the brake fluid switch on the rear brake system.

Accessing the brake fluid switch, removal, and reinstallation of the switch are covered, in addition to an overview of bleeding out the rear brake system. Also, proper installation of thread sealant and important information on brake fluid selection is covered during the procedure, and Steve covers the torque specs for the switch itself and the torque of reservoir mount.

On 87–03 Sportsters, the rear brake fluid switch is mounted on the brake line behind the exhaust, on the right side of the motorcycle. From 04–up, the switch is mounted on the left side of the bike, below the battery.
