No Power

Question for Fix My Hog Good afternoon, I have a clients Sportster 1200 Custom here, he took it apart and now has putting it back together he realized he had no power at all. I found a ground wire under the battery case that was not connected, when we connect it the lights turn on, but there is no starting no click from the relay, also noticed both turn signal indicator lights are light up solid on the dash, no signals work, the odometer does not display at all. The brake also stays on, but when we disconnect the dark grey connector at the handle bars the brake light works with the rear brake pedal just fine but still no start button action. The starter does work on the bench and we tested the relay on another sporty it worked fine. All fuses are fine and never burned any. When I crank the starter over by jumping the relay I also get no spark. We have been up and down this bike…any suggestions are appreciated.

Fix My Hog Answers Sounds like you have a dead short and also, voltage back feeding. Start by inspecting your right side handlebar switches/harness. Make sure nothing is pinched inside the switch housings or beneath your front master cylinder/master cylinder clamp. After finding and repairing the issue, verify that all of your fuses are good.

On my 2007 Sportster 1200 Custom the gray wire on the right hand control goes to the Engine Stop/Run switch and either supplies or cuts power from the ignition switch via the ignition fuse through the Engine Stop/Run switch to supply power to the System Relay coil and the Switch Power connector pin 13 on the ECM. Is the system relay good and is the Engine Stop/Run switch in the Run position? I know that sounds like a stupid question but you would be surprised how many times that is overlooked.
