FMH LIVE: 2019 Street Glide Review
Tommy CrealTommy ‘Clutch’ Creal rolled through a brand new 2019 Street Glide. He showed the slick new infotainment Boom GTS with its advanced functions, advanced navigation, and Apple CarPlay. He’s had more time to play with it since the last FMH LIVE and fined tuned his skills on many of the functions. He also reviewed all the upgrades on the M8 (motor, suspension, and front end).
P.S. Tommy “borrowed” the 2019 Street Glide in July to do a video for FMH. He liked it so much he bought it!
Make sure to share your Hog with us on Instagram #ShareFMH
All right. Hey guys. Welcome to this month's live event. I'm Tommy "Clutch" Creal, designer builder for over 15 years. Live event brought to you by Haynes Manuals.
Thanks to those guys for partnering up with them. I got to admit our shop is... loyal to Haynes. We've used their manuals for years, upon years in all our builds, so thanks again for joining up with us on this live event. So, many of you that may have tuned in last month, we've done, we did the same or similar show to this but I've had a little bit more time on this one.
So we're gonna be running through that today. Some of the upgrades done to this 2019 Street Glide. Some things that I found out, some items that the manufacturer Harley is upgraded on here. So I'm gonna give you a little bit from a factory standpoint and a real version standpoint of what I've got to know about this bike. Before we jump into it, a couple of quick things so you guys know.
There's a live chat box right here, drop in questions, If you've got any comments, any things like that, I got my computer propped up right here. Ready to get you some answers back as best I can. So throughout the show, drop in your comment or question, I'll get to it at some point. So keep going on that and then also with our Instagram page, make sure you share Fix My Hog, #shareFMH, is the way to go on that. We'll give you some exposure and some prompts on your new ride or what you've done to it and then he upgrades onto that too, so.
Make sure you check out our Instagram page. And lastly, right under that chat box is a free download for some trouble air codes, free- Can't be free, so snag that up, click that button and you'll be ready to rock and roll with that. So, as I said, we got, let's get this thing going. Like I said, last month we went through this. We had a couple of hangups, the phone didn't want to operate with me too well.
The Bluetooth then, but now we got it all skimmed out. And I actually borrowed this bike from a local Harley dealership and I, after that show and getting some ride time on it and stuff, I went out and actually just bought it, so it's a pretty slick ride. I am not, personally, I'm not a big bagger kind of guy, due to my other half, she convinced me to get it, too, but I'm definitely not anywhere disappointed in how this bike has turned out. So a couple quick things about this, this bike, some slick upgrades and some things that I like about it is, number one: obviously the Boom GTS, that we're gonna be covering in depth later on in the show. With the 6.5 inch screen right here is the biggest upgrade out of it all.
With these Milwaukee ATS M8s, we have four cylinders per or we have four valves per cylinder on here, total of eight valves which is helping with a lot of the engine performance. The torque out of this thing, I get about 160 torque, a foot pounds of torque out of here so I've had time after time and even my guys Zach over here, pulling out like a Harley dealership gun in a little bit and getting a little fish tail on it. So it's got the meat, it's got the horsepower to get you up and going. So in the right hands, unfortunately, my hands where I like to ride hard to make sure the bike knows who's boss, this is definitely worthy of that, so. Also the pull of it the way it handles, a lot of the suspension upgrades on this one and the, the ability to, with the knobs in the back of the suspension and get those dialed in to where you like them, has been a really easy for me.
I took this bike down to Tennessee and Sturgis and all those places and not one complaint versus running my Rigid Bobber, so it's night and day like, it's like riding a Cadillac out here. So there's no diving on here which is one of the better parts, too, and a lot of the bumps that you just don't see coming and I've hit that really helped with compression and going that route. So, suspension is definitely an upgrade. Torque is definitely an upgrade on here and the handling, I can't say it enough, I'm a very, very aggressive rider and... was taught that way, so I like to lean back on that excuse, but the way I turn into to corners and also get out of corners, this thing feels like it's, you know, a hundred pounds rather than a few hundred.
So the way it handles, and even after getting a wildly front and, you know, a bumper something that stabilizes pretty quickly and leans right out on there. The breaking system. So ABS is nothing new to us, with twin cams and Evo's and baggers, long line of a bike CVOs. But with this one, it's a reflex linkage. A braking system, in layman terms, what that means is that the computer is processing how much you're applying your front brake, your rear brake, and your speed at the same time to allow for you to have the easiest breaking.
And when I say easiest breaking, that's also the safest. So, if I'm jamming around a corner and I come out, something spooks me and I slammed on the front brake and the rear brake, and don't have time to downshift that quickly, everything's processed. And the breaking is then applied to the front and rear on here. And the speed is controlled through that as well, so. That upgrade is a, is really, really slick on this one.
I prefer it. I'm a downshift kind of guy; limit the breaking, but in those, those situations, situations that it is has helped me out. So that's another cool little upgrade. And then the traction control and suspension, like I already mentioned, are pretty badass, too, so. That's cool stuff about this, this bike here.
This is the plain jane stock one. Obviously, I just put a sissy bar on for my other half. This winter, we'll be getting into it. Hopefully, you guys see it again, but... if you're in the market to get a new bike or upgrade to something and you're in between 2017, 18, 19, there's a lot of factors to keep in mind, when, when trying to upgrade or buy a new or newer used bike, in that.
And this is definitely one not to disappoint and same thing with the Road Glide as well. I really like the bikes, so. All right, let's get into the nuts and bolts about this, this whole myth and then the whole arena about the Boom GTS, So on these, we're gonna go through the navigation. We're gonna go through the music. We're gonna go through the audio, the settings, all the fun whistles and bells on this one but first a few things with this new boom system.
It's a 6.5 inch screen. They reduce the buttons down to three. So it's an easier navigation simpler to use. The response of the start-up in this is, you'll see, when I turn it on, is literally a lightning fast. It's crisp, clean, clear picture and definitely not to disappoint on the function and, ability of how it's used, too.
I've had a few bikes in the past we've worked on and I've seen a lot of issues that come around on their, on their boom setups or just display setups. And literally, what we have here is a little laptop computer and you'll definitely see why with all these options that we have. You can spend a whole night out here in the garage and, and working through that, so. Also, with this screen, as well, you have the ability to pension zoom on it. And some of you may be thinking, "Yeah, whatever.
That's not that big of a deal", but the cool part about that is no matter if you're wearing Harley gloves, mechanic gloves, fab gloves, welding gloves or just using your fingertips, it's responsive, and it recognizes that. So I've got one of my fab gloves. I'm gonna show you on that. And that's a, that's a nice little feature. Apple Play is another cool one.
I'm gonna be discuss a few things about that throughout this, this area or this video. And that's another one. So, all right. I know you guys are jonesing to see what we got going on. I'm just gonna turn it on.
Good? Sorry, guys. It's about 90 degrees out today in the garage. So, plenty of water intake. So, obviously, start-up mode is every bike out there, car out there.
We have that good old liability warning from the manufacturer. Once we get off that, you can see there, here's our home screen. How are you doing on the camera? We have the three buttons right there: music, navigation, phone. Phone is also linked with text messaging, as well.
On the sides, we have our quick starts which is our home button. If any case that we're into another screen and we need to jump back without hesitation. We go right back into that. We also have buttons on the side. We have a 5.5 function, I should say.
A button on our right control that allows us to navigate through, as well. Choose options. I'm gonna show you the contrast that we have on this button right here for a five second hold. You can upper, or you can bring the... The thrust of your pitcher to a brighter if you're at nighttime riding.
And the left side, we have a home button where it's simply another quick, quick pick right back on this one. So needless to say, you have plenty of options if you're trying to get, navigate around this whole thing, they did a great job with that. On here. We have our settings for audio. We have our information on the right side which I don't have the bike started just yet.
So we're not gonna get any readings on the info. Swipe to the left, engine info. You can enable, disable certain functions that you want to see on your display here, distance riff road and then trips summaries. Obviously, if you're riding different trips, you want to calculate the miles, all that good stuff, that's the way to do it. Here's the cool stuff.
So fabrication gloves, actually not fab gloves, they're just my fab gloves. No matter what we're doing on here... super responsive. Picks it all up. Watch your earlier models booms aren't that typically, don't typically gravitate and work that well, so.
Thanks for use. That's the cool part about this guy. So we're gonna through the home screen here in a couple of the options that we have, we have the star down here which is our favorites. And we can, we're gonna go through and save a few favorites. Our communication right here.
So that's either Bluetooth or your WHIM. For some of you that don't know what a WHIM is, it's Wireless Headset Interface Module, and that is allows for us to have a headset on and work with our bike that way. So it's voice command on this bike, specifically, I can take voice calls. They will come in, but I can't take unless I have that headset, personal preference on that. So I don't, I'm not necessarily all about needing that, but that's, that's the case on there.
You can use that or Bluetooth, as well, or you can also link it up. So we have the access box right here. And we have our jack for direct plugin as well. If you don't want to take the route of Bluetooth, which kind of the downfall of this one, too. During my rides, I like to keep the phone near me rather than one of the bags.
I have to actually take the cushion out, to fit my phone, my Apple phone in, otherwise you don't really have enough space in there. So that's only kind of downfall, but nothing heartbreaking right there. Down here, we have our settings, which we have a ton. We can either use arrow, or we're able to scroll up and down on here and we're gonna go through that, next. And then right down here is our command bar, where it's showing us the reception that we have.
We're linked up through a Bluetooth. Position that the bike is pointed in a compass wise. And then music's on now and the grand old HD symbol right down there for us with a clock on it, too. And then if you're just done with it, we got to have our power off button and mute button right here. So I just hit the mute button.
All right. So first things first, let's get into settings and after getting a bike or if you're getting a, you just purchased it, make sure you do all these, these upgrades before, or sorry, you pick out all your settings before you get going on the road. So it's a little bit easier when you're gone. The stock defaults are obviously stock. So when I was adjusting the music on here or the bass, the treble.
The glide of everything, that's something to pay attention to. So under settings, we're gonna go and we're gonna make this one fun. Audio settings based in treble. So those are the two that we have to choose from. So on here, you can either go back and forth...
With the finger or you have the plus or minus here for adjustments as well. Treble, same thing. And then audio routing. So audio routing, what that is, I can either go on and off with prompts or go to the wireless headset. So considering that I don't have a WHIM, I just have them coming directly out of the bike.
In this case, if you are, you have a wireless headset and all I'm doing is turning down. This is another area where you can turn it down. If you do have a wireless headset, you can have the music directly going to that, with the passenger on back. And if it doesn't have one of those interfaces, you can have it, You can have it on both as well. Prompts, same thing on the wireless headset and then your commands.
So I'm just gonna keep the prompts here because that's text messaging, calls and navigation, as well. So, obviously, you do want to hear that without compromising anything. And another cool feature is that you can actually allow for, you can adjust your passenger. If you both have wireless headsets, you can adjust yours a specific way. So your volume, what you hear is different than your passenger as well.
And you can also go into ringtones and adjust a specific reading tones. It's pretty, pretty mind blowing how much stuff they put in here. So speaker volumes. It's pretty straightforward. We have the tuner and media, so we can adjust, just by that, the music that we're gonna hear, and that tone, the prompt and navigation.
I'm not a big fan of having that, Beep beep beep beep. And you can change the beep, so she actually says something. So it's a little bit more amusing than that. That's gonna be the volume when we program and get our route all in our interface here, that, that'll be prompting up. Phone.
So same thing. If you're, if you're taking in calls, you're running through text messaging and things like that. This is another volume control area. CB, that's for your wireless headset, and... This is the actual beep.
So, as you're going through and you're pressing your buttons or navigating through your screen here, that's another option. Rider Headset Volumes. Now, this isn't the main Rider Headset Volumes. Just what I was speaking about. You can adjust these personally to how you want them.
You guys can have your own options, which is pretty slick. I think that's pretty cool. Hold on. And then I'm running through that. We have speed volume where you can adjust it depending on if you're slowing down or going forward on that, as well.
All right. So we're gonna jump, we're gonna jump first in the navigation here, and then we'll jump around based on the time and the questions you guys got. So, again, we can run right back if we need to. Right to the home screen, we're just gonna start off here. This is the main screen.
This is, this is completely customizable as well. Hitting the option screen right here, setting screen right here. I'm gonna run through this again. I didn't go into this in-depth last, last show, but on here, point of view, our point of interest icons, you can highlight and go through each and every one on here. Community, automotive, coffee shops, and you can make it one of your favorite stuff down at the bottom, so, it's an emergency, press a button and near a gas station, ATM, whatever it may be.
They even have Harley in here, where we'll put gas station. Harley-Davidson entertainment. And what that will do is pop up right in our screen. So right here, we can see, we're gonna see the Food N- food and fuel, nearby. And if we want to go directly there, all we're gonna do is hit the navigate.
The route is being calculated. Huh? And all the way through. Pick go options under options, if we want to take different routes there, as well. We have route preference where it's scenic, fastest, shortest, twisty which is a nice little cool twist on it.
A little, that was funny. Show route. So we get an overview of that route and then also simulate routes. So, Please proceed to the highlighted route. So it's gonna run us all the way through, the entire route right there.
I'm not gonna wait for this whole thing to clear but as you can see right there, it's going through. The route is being calculated. All right, we're gonna back out of this one go right back up the options. The different areas that we have on here, auto zoom is on and off. I'm gonna turn it, normal.
And then you can customize the way that you want to see see your navigation all the way through, too and I'm gonna go through Harley's app and to get us, a map through their app as well. But I'm gonna first address this stuff with you guys so you can check it out. Man, it's hot! All right. So under settings, all the zoom, all this fun stuff, I mean, you can spend, like I said earlier you can spend days going through it.
You choose your icon, motorcycle icon. We can even have Blue Arrow Electric Glide, Road Glide, Street Glide. So I pick the Street Glide. If we want to Road Glide, it changes out and you'll see it right there. And this can be a little bit intimidating time after time, with how much options you have but the end of the day, it definitely helps out, so.
So here's what we're gonna do, we're gonna put in, I'm gonna pull up, since we're connected with Bluetooth, I'm gonna pull up Harley's app here, which I already downloaded. Harley's little app. You got this one, Zach? All right. So here's Harley's app.
We have couple options in here. I've already linked my bike to it. So we can, a little bit easier to go through. You can add another bike if if you want as well, if you got multiple bikes. Here's our navigation where we can create a ride which we will be doing and record a ride.
And then here's all their challenges, upcoming challenges, past, and all you're doing is competing for more miles on the road with all this kind of stuff, so. Encouraging people to ride a little bit more on that end and then all your setting area. So, where to? Right up here on top. And I'm gonna send this right to...
Sturgis. I already got that linked in here. We have two options. Dealer info, send a bike. I'm gonna send this to bike, send location to bike.
We're gonna confirm that by hitting send. And what we should see is right there on the menu, new destination received from HD app. We're gonna hit view The route is being calculated. And I'm gonna save this one. I'm gonna actually save it as home, rather than on my list.
Be a nice place to live. You can also have the option to call it, as well. And then under options. Here's another little nice twist to it. And on the app, just by the way, it just reset, so.
It's already in our bike. We don't have to worry about any additional items We're gonna go through and take the scenic route. We're gonna pull off Round Trip. The route is being calculated. You can take different routes, same route, off.
Okay, we just need you to be quiet for one minute. Avoidances. If you're taking a trip, like us from here from Illinois. You can avoid highways, tollways, ferries, tunnels, cars / trains, unpaved roads, seasonal restriction, borders. So literally, they had mountains of people putting this boom together and then you can export this off as well.
So under this now, we're gonna wait for it to calculate again. I'm just gonna make sure it caught up. It's taken a fail. So this has happened a couple of times with us. The route is being calculated.
Because of the amount of what we are trying to do, adjustments to it, as well. So I'm gonna pull it off and cancel this route and how we do that. I'm gonna go through. We're gonna send it to bike again. Right through our app.
Send a bike, send. And this is one downfall. We were going through this a couple of days ago and same thing on the trips too. A lot of times, if you run into a glitch like this so I just sent it back to the bike and now, it's not pressing again. Turn it off, let it sit for about five seconds.
Turn it back on. Just sit for a minute. Unfortunately, you guys get to see this now so you know how to troubleshoot in the future. Let it reset. All right.
And then we're gonna go back through, create ride. It's got my starting point in here as well. And then I just went through and send it the bike again. So quick fix, not too bad. The route is being calculated.
And now we can go. Please process to the highlighted route. So as you, as you saw, wasn't con- it wasn't taking consideration, the scenic route. And a few things that we can do to change that, if we want to. And under when you have your navigation, too.
I've already input and ready to go, as it shows right here 1:26 is our time right now, but we can go through it here. Please proceed to the highlighted route. And adjust and see... our entire outline of the trip as well. So it's step-by-step all the way through.
And again, if you have your WHIM wireless headset all are ready to rock and roll. This'll be shout out right in your ear. You have a stop button right here. And, time after time, these things can be super sensitive. 'Cause all I did was accidentally hit the send on screen.
Now drew me over, but let's get right back on it. And then, maneuvers, which just showed you that one, posit destination, go back to options. So, we have fastest route now, shortest route. Go back to scenic, see, now shooting back at us. And a lot of times, a lot of times this can be an issue, where you're not getting good enough reception for this to come through.
We've had this in the shop a few days that we've had bikes in the past, too, where we're just not getting that kind of great of reception through here, too. So, we're gonna go through. And I'm gonna show you one more time. So we're not running any snags so you guys got a good idea the... All right.
And down here you can see a flag with this little guy. Now that's the left side data field. And what you can do is adjust what you see on your screen there. So currently I have the arrival time on there. You have the arrival distance that you can choose, as well.
Clock, Time Remaining, Current Speed, Speed Limit on that road your on. Heading, which is your compass, Time to Turn, which will give you an allowance of certain amount of time before you need to make a left or a right. Or if you blew by your, your exit turn around. Distance. Time to your destination.
Overall Average Speed. Total Time. Moving Times. Stop Time. GPS Accuracy.
Temperature. Elevation. So pretty much, I mean, you got everything at your fingertips right here. I tend to like get in the tech savvy kind of stuff. So I can nerd out on this one for awhile but that's pretty cool, little feature on here.
So we're just gonna stick with... actually we'll change it up for you. Let's put a... Total Time. We'll go down to that.
Right now to calculate, all the way back. So, we're gonna shoot this one back. And we've seen this before. So if I'm working through the, the Harley app on here, and inputting things, I stop the process of the navigation, more or less, reset it. And then try going back through search.
Sometimes, it has hiccups. The go-to thing is to turn off your bike, let it reset, and then get right back. So again, you can see, I just hit, again, send a bike and it didn't read it again. So all we're gonna do is we're gonna shut it off. Let it reset.
On the app, what you want to do is cancel it. Make sure it's not sitting there. The road is calling. One, two. Turn right back on.
Should prompt us right back up. As you can see, it's pretty quick start up, this time, huh? It's just resetting. I guess the downside to all these things, too, is if you have, all this gadgets, all the gadgets on here it's a whole different, it's a lot of fun. All right.
So we're gonna go right back to Sturgis. It's in location. View. The route is being calculated. I get right back to it.
Please proceed to the highlighted route. And we're right back at it, so. You could see all the destinations. We hit the gas stations in here. I don't know where's Harley, it's up there off 80.
Gas stations, entertainment, all those... areas that we enabled. And then down here, here's your maneuvers. You can also see your distance for turns, zero yards right now. Please proceed to the highlighted area.
Yeah, area, so. Last time that was our sticking point in the shoot where we weren't able to go through. So we had that amount of time to figure it out. You can save this one. We can also access, right here.
So I don't have anything saved from the HD app. This is where we would save it. And then we would just have that for future reference already installed in here. So we wouldn't have to go through the Harley app, right off the bat. All right, sorry guys.
I'm gonna check up this... Chat box. You can add one type of route through the app, as well. So where are you gonna make the adjustments? If you want to do it differently, it's right here into your Boom GTS.
Through that, that's where we're gonna go through, right in the settings and make all those adjustments. So we have a pause location, a destination through here. Options. So, we have the fastest, shortest... And now it's working with us.
So here's the shortest route. Please proceed to the highlighted route. We'll see if they want to work with us now. Twisty route. Let's see if they want to.
All right. Please proceed to the highlighted route. This is the twisty route, which I'm sure once you get to the hills in the open road, it's gonna start directly and definitely, it's not gonna be going off road and through people's front lawns. All right. I'll get right on it.
And then scenic. All right. Four for four now. And that'll take us right back through, too. All right.
Let's see what, what Larry's got here. Please proceed to the highlighted route. All right. Larry's got, "I'd like to install Boom Audio stage two of my 2017 Road Glide Special, understand that the bike has to be flashed prior connecting the speakers. I was hoping to do this job myself.
So I'm wondering, do I need to bring the bike in with the fairing still on the bike so I can have it flashed as well as have the speakers connected and then they had the fairing re-installed or could it be done? Re-installed then the bike flashed speakers installed for the front." Concerning what you have together right now, the easiest option, save us options without screwing up anything with your interface or modules is going to be taking the entire bike and take it in without the fairing if you have it off right now. Keep the speakers as they are. You can, you can unhook them. You're not gonna run into any problematic issues with that but make sure you do no kind of flashing by yourself.
I know Harley's got with with their electronics and modules nowadays and their technology that they're giving their dealers and techs. It's, it's even hard for us as builders to get some of this stuff as well. So, on fully understand these motherboards that they have in the bikes. So hopefully that to answer your question here, Larry, is take the entire bike in. Fairing on or off.
If, if you're easier with that going off, that's cool. Speakers can be unhooked, but let them flash it. And then you can reassemble the entire thing from there. Interested to know, though, if you can shout right back on this one and how you're liking your, your current setup with your Boom Audio System 2017. And if you see any upgrades from here, that kind of impressed you, I think that'd be, I'd be curious to know about that.
If you can throw it in there, bud. Yeah, so. Well, I'm gonna... there's no other questions just yet but I'm gonna run right back into this guy. I'm not gonna spend too much more time on the navigation.
We're gonna go through some of the settings and cool little features on this one too. But now that we've taken off our... we don't need to call Harley Sturgis, do we? Just there? And before...
Dennis actually tossed in a question, "What do you like, or will you change on your new ride?" So here's the deal. So you guys have a little background. I've been building bikes 15 years, ground up, celebrities, you know, average people like, like me through it. And I always appreciated the simpler functions, not so much electronical things, more mechanical things, attention to detail. So even getting this bike was a shot in the dark for the first couple of days and couldn't believe it.
Then you know, I, I, I truly loved the bike, the way it handles the speed, the response. That's one thing I wish I had on one of my Rigids but, being in the industry, obviously you want to change the entire bike to reflect your personality, your image, and get your own tone and touch to it, as well. So that could be seen on the road. So initially with this one over the winter what we're gonna be doing is we're gonna be taking this and making sure it doesn't look like a Harley again. See, I'm not gonna take the approach and do stretched out bags or all that fancy stuff with oversize front wheels and slamming it down with new shrouds and outer fairings.
We're gonna kind of make a bone stock with a street fighter look to it, so it's tough-looking pipes. It's gonna be ceramic black on here, going back on the bags and trying to make them a little bit smaller, condensing the rear end. Taking off that tail light, relocating it. So it's counter-sunk right in the rear fender. From the front end, you know, like I said earlier, the suspension, the brake, and all that stuff is, is wicked cool and, and functional and, and working to my benefit with the way I ride.
But I do want to kind of change the landscape on that, too, and, and get a little bit more flavor to the rim. Even though these stock ones are pretty cool. You guys can't see them right now, maybe by the end we can show you, but it's just a contrast black with the billet on the outside. No chrome in there. So we're gonna run through and get the front end a little bit different.
Get some ears off here, condense the front and not any to, not add too many diamonds and glitters. Don't really like about this one? You know, there's not much, other than some of the electrical stuff, and walking into... this, this bike, I knew I don't want to get the locks or an upgrade on this and, and see you guys know as well. If you are purchasing a 2019, the WHIM setup will be right here on it, for the plug for the jack.
That'll be allowed right there but the electrical side can be a little bit, as you can see as we're going through this, it could be a little bit off center, not working with you every day. Fortunately, I haven't had any of those troubles on the road. The seating's great. The comfortability of it's great. Usually, one of the first things I'll do is take the handlebars off and modify that.
These aren't too bad. You're sitting pretty straight and definitely with making custom bikes for our clients. One of the big things that we look into is making sure they're comfy on the road and Harley did a great job. Was i guess, speculating a little bit rider size and all that stuff on this. So that is one area.
But, personally, from my point of view, it's just, there's too much on it. Crash bars. You're, you know, I've, I've tested the limits on those, the bags, I think the pipes have a little scrapes on them 'cause I was taking a couple corners in. But to be honest with you guys and, and not being a true bag, bagger kinda dude here, there's just a little too much for me, personally. And I know 75%, 50% of you guys don't mind it at all, but for me, it was a different route, so.
But bone stock working with a sucker is gonna be a fun, fun run. Hopefully, that answers that. I can go on for ages but I don't want to bore everyone with, with what I do on this one. So a couple last minute things on the navigation. So we're just gonna stop this whole location run right back.
And as you can see, this thing's jumping pretty quick. Here was the timer that we set for... Travel. Total Travel Time, reset that to zero. So under search icons, we can go through a recent, anywhere we were.
Sturgis a few times, kind of see all my roads. HDF point of views. And then down here, we have a quick, quick out access. Excuse me, quick access area, gas stations, food lodging Harley dealerships, of course, anything close by. And then also emergency or medics that are needed through this.
We're gonna make it easy on us. We're just gonna say we're gonna go to the closest Harley, click on that. And go. So, you know, one of the things I like about this is the responsiveness, too. I know you guys probably don't feel like waiting around waiting for technology to catch up to you.
It's supposed to be faster than us half the time, or most of the time, I should say. So this one is super responsive. It's wicked, wicked cool in that aspect. So navigation, that's what we got here. And boy, did that go a lot smoother than it did last, last month.
I got to tell you that. It's good when, when they want to work with you. So we're gonna stop that. And Larry, if you're still with this, man if you can let us know in that chat box. So you're liking that, liking that one.
And then if, if you go into the phone settings, SMS settings, text messages settings, look at previous calls right through here. Now I have the ability to and then your contacts are synced. You can do it on radio, on phone messages. Excuse me. I can't get this because I don't either have Apple CarPlay hooked up on this which is a super sweet feature or we don't have the WHIM set up.
So those are two, two areas where I can't receive those. I'm almost, we were working on that again yesterday and for weeks, trying to figure out a way to get around that. But, unfortunately, there's not. But if you do have that access, pretty cool. You can go right through and set up an auto reply.
You can say, "I'm ripping around on the bike." "I can't talk right now." "I'll give you a shout later", and literally type that in. So it's in there. Right now, it's the default, "I'll call you later". And then view reply messages. So you're gonna just see who everyone that was texting you.
Keep track of it. So not only is this a laptop, but it's a secondary phone, if you ever lose it, too. Unless, you have it hooked up to Bluetooth and you'll be gone, but keypad and then... SOS, so, and, in case of emergencies. You can go through this.
You can set up different, this is one cool thing, Zach actually got his fingers on this, too. One of my main fabricators here and, I was looking at different areas here. You can set different ringtones for different people. I wish I had that much time. But...
that's a cool feature, too, so. If you got that good of a memory, you can check out, who's calling, you know, who's calling. You can upload ringtones, too, and get through that. And then, that's pretty much all your functions right there with your phone and text messaging, as well. And I'll get right to you here, Brian.
And then favorite, so I don't... I'm pretty, pretty simple on the stuff. I just Bluetooth my music up, put on some music and jam out but you can go through and on the audio side on here and set favorites, and obviously we have weather band. We have AM, we have FM and then my Bluetooth setting right here. And then everything's already put right back, then you have scan features in there.
And if we wanted to, we can go through the different categories of what we want to see, sports, information and different types of genres of music, rock, heavy metal, country, whatever you're into. You can categorize that, too, and get that in here. These are all presets. So we're gonna use this guy and this will just jump over to all the presets. You see it with, without my arm in there.
If we want to get on one, push it right in. Yup. Yup. Yeah, and if you do want to save a new favorite, let's just scan. Okay, boy.
Oh, we're in the garage. All right, so. We're in the garage right now so we're not getting the best reception. But if you do want to hold, you're just gonna press and hold and saving. And that's how you save a new preset on there as well.
Obviously, Bluetooth right in here. Got the Methods of Mayhem rocking. And within this, you can do shuffle, repeat Bluetooth, all the fancy stuff. And additionally, in your Bluetooth as well with our music, we got... Oh, I see Bob's question.
I'll get to you right in a minute, too, Bob. Right in here in our Bluetooth sections you can scroll right through your songs, your albums your composers, frankly, this knows more about the music. This is guy that actually wrote the music like for disturbed artists genres, this, and the others, so. A lot of times when I sit early, I want to just throw the phone away. You don't even need it.
All right, so. Bob has a, "My boom box, 6.5, has double KMS for my travel distance to my destination. How can I correct this problem?" All right. So what we're gonna do is we're gonna go through, Oh, boy. Here it is.
Typically, a lot of times I, I have not yet to adjust that stuff, but right into your information bar right here or into our settings right here. So we're gonna walk through this one right now. I'm assuming you're gonna have a Bluetooth setup on there. Display... this is gonna be on the backend.
Take off any metric units. So, here's one thing to start with. So, if we go through. Now, I'm showing, I'm showing kilometers right now. We're gonna go jump back.
We're gonna change that over to English units and changes that over. So one more time. All we did is we went through, what our info. If you have that right now, we'll go to our settings, scroll down on to global presets, full keyboard, Bluetooth. You're gonna see English units or metric units.
That's what you want to click up and down. Yes. And that's the next thing I was gonna get into, Zach. Actually, just stuff that doesn't work. Next thing you get into update.
System information. This is where you're gonna see your updates, too. So you want to update that as frequently as possible, going through there. Hopefully, that answers your question. If you need me to redo a gulf, let me know, man.
Then Brian, "My 2013 Street Bob started sputtering and run out of... Run... bad. I don't know where, it was running really great before. It was plenty of gas in it.
The bike is burning backfire through the intake. So bad does, dies out whenever I give a gas. I can still start the bike and it will idle intake, seal, leak." Likely, you definitely have something on your intake side. So, I would first, if take a diagnostics to it, run through all your options, take a look at the intake. If you said you had good gas...
"intake it... so dies out whenever I can." You're just not. You're, your air fuel mixture could be likely off, to. Make sure you got nothing clogging your... jet side either on there as well.
So, you're definitely funneling it down to something with intake. A lot of times when you're seeing that thing in older carburetor ones, even first versus fuel injection, now, it always comes down to an air fuel mixture. A lot of times when we're leaning out if you're seeing it idling, that's, you want to take a look into the electronics. Something could be misreading on that as well or depending on the upgrades that you have with any sensors or things like that, too, that could be added into the problem, so. That's the tricky part about, you know, bikes nowadays like this one, there's so much from sensor and electrical side that it really could be a pain in the ass, sometimes to, to kind of figure out what it is versus the mechanical side, the old pan heads in shovel heads where you could see something leaky, you could see the oil dripping, marking his territory.
So check that stuff out. Also refer, refer to, you know, Haynes Manuals, too, for gosh sake. Grab one of those guys or one of your other manuals for a complete disassembly on that. If you're not too experienced of a mechanic, as well. So we've got about 10 minutes left and I'm gonna address, you know, with about five minutes to go new projects that we have going on.
That's pretty, pretty wicked for you guys to make sure you're tuning in on. Let's just take a look and see if there's anything that we didn't cover in the, in July's event, this event. I think you guys got all you need in terms of the new setups on this. You know, like I said, the only downfalls I've kind of had is what you've seen with, with the navigation on here. I would like to have the ability to have Apple CarPlay on here without having a WHIM set up.
And for some of you that don't know what Apple CarPlay is with any Apple product, working with your Harley, it'll actually read like off my phone, all my apps on here. So if I have these apps, majority of them will appear on the screen, allowing it to be another touch-tone phone. So I don't have that ability, even if I, if I'm hard-wiring it in to go through that. The good part is, you know, if good part for me, maybe not for everyone else, someone gives an incoming call to me, I'll see it pop up, I'll see it ringing. They can't hear me.
I can hear them. So if you truly want to take a cruise on the road and have set your mind free, knowing that no one could give you a call and get ahold of you, that's the way to do it. But with Apple CarPlay and a WHIM that you'd be able to actually talk and communicate via phone and text messaging as well. Good things about the Apple CarPlay, too, is you've got the ability to just, just scroll through your your entire phone at your fingertips again. So if you're you're into that make sure you get that set up with Harley there.
They're asking for the new one. They had an update to their interface. So you have to get a brand, spanking, new one to work with the new GTS Boombox. So kind of downside there, 'cause you're looking at 150, 200 bucks to pop on one those on your head. And other than that, though, it's it's not too shabby.
But I've been totally, totally stoked about this whole new set up then cool. And, I don't know, a man behind the camera, camera right there. You got anything else to add on this whole setup? It's been a pretty bit sick bike so far. So we've got, I'm gonna, and again, favorites and all that kind of jazz.
Alright, Will's got a question. "I've got a couple sports" That's nice man. Congrats. "97 1200 0383 anniversary." Nice bike. "My question is, can I swap the 21 inch tire from the 97 with the 19 front rim from the all three of both are wear wheels, not sure if that makes a difference or not and any helper direction can be appreciated." All right.
So here's the deal. Well, I'm gonna give you a quick run through on trail and geometry. So with our ground up builds and frames that we built from the ground up. There's one denominator that we always look into and that's the trail, your bike that ensures that at low speed, you don't have low speed wobble, high speed. You don't have, it feels like dead weight.
And when you're adjusting suspension in the front and even raking triple 3s, putting a new spring around new front tire, new rear tire that all whacks out your geometry of your frame and lead into your, your trail. And, and you want either between four or six inches is preferred trail. That's your contact point of your front tire. Now, obviously when Harley made these these bikes everything's to a T on, on, on having adequate and safe trail. I can't give you a straight answer on that but you can look up because I can't run the numbers right now, but you can look up trail equations and input all your information.
So I do know by just swapping those two tires out and having that two inch, you're either gonna gain more trail or less trail, more likely more trail on that, which can lead to higher speeds and feeling a little bit dead weight, rather than having low speed wobble. So the denominators that you want to take into consideration are a lot, lot more, I should say that the areas you want to take into consideration, they'll ask you is your, your front suspension length your , your, your neck, the offset of your triple 3s, your front tire size, rear tire size and overall frame length, so... An overall wheel length, excellent axis. So those are the areas that are critical. So I don't want to point you in misdirection here.
I wish I can give you a straight answer but just Google it up, "calculate trail for my motorcycle". And if you have between four and six, I mean seven, you can, you can kind of bank it up to and, and be safe but make sure you're in that, that parameter to make sure you're good on the road with that. Hopefully that helps, pal. And that could be torment. And for years down the road, but with something like that, you shouldn't, shouldn't have any, or sorry, 21 inch, 19 inch front reams.
You shouldn't have too many issues, so. So, we've got, speaking of sports, there's an L in the subject, we just got, we put this whole thing together of, we had a budget. We, want to take a Sportster and to show you guys how to take, you know, a plane, stock bike and turn it into one, bad-ass looking bike. So we got a Sportster and we're gonna be doing some filming and making some videos for you guys. I'm turning that into a cafe racer.
So not only are we just putting parts on and making some modifications, we're trying to give you a level of help of figuring out how to budget for a bill, how to find a bike, how to modify it on that budget, and get your kind of dream bike, phase by phase. So keep an eye on the next couple of months as these videos are being shot out at you. It's pretty sick. We got some cool stuff on this bike and I'm pretty stoked about it, 'Cause it's, it's definitely gonna be helping you guys out and you can kind of see real-world of step-by-step we went through. So make sure you guys check that out.
I'm kind of tapped on, on our stuff here. Harley gives you a good old starter guide, too. I want to show you guys. I didn't want to read this because it would have been super boring. Troubleshooting, Apple Play, all that kind of stuff.
So if you're getting a new bike and it's used 2019, if there's one on the market already, make sure you ask the original owner to grab this stuff. It'll help kind of at least get you going in the right direction outside these videos, for you. So, I appreciate you guys tuning in. Hopefully, this was beneficial. Got to all your questions, guys.
I'll give you another minute, if you've got any more. And... you know, like I said, if you're in the market for a new bike, this is definitely one to, to check out and get your legs over. It's pretty cool stuff. Also, want to give another shout out to our guys at Haynes Manuals for partnering up on us on these live events.
Make sure you guys go out and grab your, your manuals. No joke. We, I, literally have one right here from one of We Built Allstate Insurances Bike. This is for their Weber carburetors we put on, so. No joke, we use it with stuff too.
It's good stuff. Thanks for tuning in guys. And we'll see you next month.
Is there an advantage to belt primary over chain?
