Draining Sportster Gas Tank & Filter Service
In order to service the fuel filter on your Sportster, you’ll need to drain the fuel tank. Bob demonstrates the best way to do this using a MityVac and a gasoline can. Once you follow his instructions and drain the fuel tank filter, cleaning any dirty parts and tightening any loose bolts, you can refill the tank with fuel and your bike should be good to go.

Harley Tools and Products

Motorcycle safety inspection after service
Now that you’ve fully serviced your Harley Sportster, you can take the opportunity to check all of the safety features on the bike. Make sure the lights are working properly, the horn makes noise, turn signals are operational, and all grommets are in place. Then you should check the throttle, add oil and fill the tires to the correct level. Once your finished with the service, get out and ride!
*****The service manual states you should follow your negation cable down from battery and remove nut that secures the connector to ground stud on the crankcase boss behind the starter motor assembly. You will need to do the reverse during installation.

Harley Brakes – Sportster Rear Pad Replacement
Bob demonstrates the proper technique for checking, servicing and replacing Harley brakes on the rear wheel caliper of your Harley Sportster. He shows how to loosen the caliper, remove the brake pads and install a new set. Once they are in place, he pumps the rear brakes to make sure the caliper is making solid contact with the wheel and checks the fluid reservoir. If the fluid level is low, you should either bleed the brakes or replace the fluid. More Maintenance Videos are listed here.

After doing the install, my right side blinkers stopped working. The running lights work fine. Did I miss a wire or maybe short or ground a wire?
Hi, Allen. We would be happy to assist you; we just need some more information. What is the make/model/year of your motorcycle?
I put Baby Apes on my 08 XL1200C Sportster by using your video. Very well done and APPRECIATED.! I see why it costs so much at the dealership. Took me better part of a week. BUT, I am a Disabled Nam Vet. EVERYTHING takes me 3X as long to do as before. LOL. Just wanted to say THANKS!. I have used other videos, but this one was extra good with all the details. RIDE SAFE, RIDE HARD.
I have a 2005 softail deluxe efi, is this the same procedure used for my bike for installing 14 in mini apes?
Stephen,
A majority of the procedures will be the same or similar. We highly suggest that you have a service manual for reference & that you stay away from any cheaper handlebar options that you may come across. Cheaper, Chinese handlebars often have hard, sharp, edges internally. They are often rusty inside & the holes for wiring harness are drilled too small & need to be opened up with a carbide rasp. If you have any questions as you move forward with the upgrade, let us know. We will do our best to help.
