Lead Acid Battery to AGM
Mike RoenBattery technology has come a very long way since the 1970s. The conventional style, lead acid, battery that was originally used on Mike’s 1977 Shovelhead is not the ideal battery for today’s world.
Here, Mike covers a topic where many Shovelhead owners may already be familiar. This is, upgrading from a conventional lead, acid battery to a maintenance-free AGM battery.
An AGM battery is not only preferable because it does not require maintenance. A conventional battery can leak acid on your motorcycle. This can ruin paint, chrome, or polished surfaces.
A maintenance free battery is considerably smaller, but can fit securely behind the battery covers after adding wood and foam shims.
