Shovelhead Spokes and Tires
Mike RoenSpoked, or laced, wheels are very common original equipment on older Harley Davidsons. It is possible to keep laced rims in service for many miles and over many years. However, to do so, these wheels do require regular, routine maintenance.
Neglect of spokes and wheel bearings can lead to costly repairs and can even result in dangerous operating conditions, or complete wheel failure. In this video, we follow along with Mike Roen as he demonstrates wheel bearing and race cleaning, inspection and servicing. Mike explains how to inspect your tire, rim, and spokes. There is an emphasis in spoke maintenance and wheel end play inspection and correction.
