Dyna (FXD) engine mount/isolator replacement. The rubber engine mounts are designed to keep the engine vibrations from transferring to the frame and controls of the motorcycle. But over time they wear out due to movement, heat, and exposure to the elements. When these motor mounts wear, it will allow additional engine movement, plus it can affect the handling of the motorcycle. This is because the engine and transmission are suspended in the frame by these mounts, and on the Dyna line, the swingarm is mounted to the transmission. That means that when the mounts wear and sag, it can affect the position of the rear wheel that is attached to the swingarm, and this can drastically affect the handling of the motorcycle.

In this FMH GOLD video, Steve Knoble demonstrates the proper procedure for the replacement of the front and rear mounts. This work is done on a 2005 FXD Dyna Superglide and it’s the same procedure for the entire Dyna line. Steve also puts the new and used mounts on the bench and discusses the difference between the two. He also discusses how to identify a worn engine mount so you will be able to identify if it is time to replace your mounts.
